Tree Protection Plans

In Edmonton, any work including simple vehicle access or material storage within 5 meters of a City Tree or 10m of a Natural Stand requires a Public Tree Permit. For projects that don’t involve excavation or grade changes, this is fulfilled through the submission of a Tree Protection Plan. For these projects, work cannot begin until a tree protection plan has been approved and a tree permit has been issued.

Our Tree Protection Plans include:

  • Based on measurements of each tree, we calculate the exact required fencing setbacks.

  • Factoring in project requirements and proximity to city trees, we determine if anti-compaction is required for the tree and what type is best suited for the site.

  • We design approved technical layouts for barrier fencing and mandatory public-facing signage.

Cost:

Tree Protection plans start at $750 for plans involving 1 -3 trees. This involves all aspects of a Tree Protection Plan including tree measurements, submission through The City’s online portal and delivery of the Tree Permit once issued. If more than 3 trees are within the projects area, an additional cost of $150 per tree will apply to complete the Plan.

If required, tree fencing can also be provided and installed for an additional charge.
