Tree Protection Plans
In Edmonton, any work including simple vehicle access or material storage within 5 meters of a City Tree or 10m of a Natural Stand requires a Public Tree Permit. For projects that don’t involve excavation or grade changes, this is fulfilled through the submission of a Tree Protection Plan. For these projects, work cannot begin until a tree protection plan has been approved and a tree permit has been issued.

Based on measurements of each tree, we calculate the exact required fencing setbacks.

Factoring in project requirements and proximity to city trees, we determine if anti-compaction is required for the tree and what type is best suited for the site.

We design approved technical layouts for barrier fencing and mandatory public-facing signage.
Cost:
Tree Protection plans start at $750 for plans involving 1 -3 trees. This involves all aspects of a Tree Protection Plan including tree measurements, submission through The City’s online portal and delivery of the Tree Permit once issued. If more than 3 trees are within the projects area, an additional cost of $150 per tree will apply to complete the Plan.
If required, tree fencing can also be provided and installed for an additional charge.
