Landscaping Substitution Credits

Maximize your project margins by turning existing trees into instant cost savings

What Are Landscape Substitution Credits?

To get your landscaping deposit returned on a new development, the City of Edmonton requires you to plant a specific number of new trees and shrubs.

However, under The City’s Zoning Bylaw, developers are incentivized to preserve existing healthy trees on or near the property. For every mature tree you successfully protect during construction, the City grants you a substitution credit.

In short: Keeping existing trees means you are legally allowed to plant fewer new trees at the end of your project, and decrease the security deposit that is sent to The City.
